Digital nomadism
Technically I don't currently have a household to housekeep in, so I'm starting this new thread to discuss my exciting new lifestyle.
It's a lovely morning here in this Premier Inn on the (mystery town) bypass, and I've been working hard getting my laptop to work properly for tomorrow.

That parallel had occurred to me

I need exercise, and cartridges for the fancy pen that I use to write my diary, so tomorrow I'm going to walk into Braintree to get some from Smiths.

Re: Digital nomadism
Sometimes I think this nomadism idea is the worst mistake I ever made, on a par with educating Marmalade.
But the rest of the time I think it's the best idea I ever had, and I'm astonished at my audacity in making such a bold improvement to my life.

I got my cartridges, and an external keyboard. That has made typing so much easier than on the laptop keyboard.
I got rained on on the way back

Very selfish parking by that little maroon Nissan.
Last week at Sainsburys there was a Ferrari parked (abandoned) not only across two spaces but part of the adjoining roadway too. It's quite possible that you all heard the tutting from Essex and Birmingham and Sheffield.

That would be so funny if it was your ex neighbours with their new 4x4 boat combo.

Re: Digital nomadism
There was a lot of noise between 1 and 2.30am, people checking in late and stumbling around. I began to feel quite resentful.
I do wonder if I would always find something to be apprehensive and cross about, wherever I was and whoever my neighbours were.

I like Premier Inns, but I do wish they'd make all their room doors shut quietly and not slam shut. From 6am it's slam, slam, slam, slam, slam, slam......

Re: Digital nomadism
Ironically I've just heard two Premier Inn doors slam shut as people arrive for the night.
I'm glad you share my liking for Premier Inns
I like the way there's a standard pattern with a number of variables just to keep things interesting.
So for example the room is always the same shape, but it might have air conditioning, or a wall heater and thermostat.
There might be a fan, and there might not.
There might be a table lamp, and there might not.
There's usually an armchair, but sometimes there's a little round table as well.
This room is a bit unusual, it has two armchairs, I don't think I've ever seen that before.

I've usually chosen Premier Inn over other hotels when I've stayed around the country. The ones I've stayed in seem more up to date than the likes of rival Travelodge and like you I like the theming!
But I did stay in one in Edinburgh several years ago where the room was directly above a bar - loud music, chatter and glass clinking until the early hours of the morning, followed by outside bin lorry and recycling bottle clatter from about 5am! It was the hotel that never slept.

Re: Digital nomadism
Some **** had their telly on really loudly till 3am, and I had to get up at 4, so I was very displeased.
Luckily I'm moving hotels today, I'm going back to the one on the edge of Zarnichester.

I thought hotel TVs generally either had volume limiters or very tinny speakers.

Re: Digital nomadism
My idea of 'really loudly' may be a lot quieter than most people's.
When I opened the hatchback this morning to put my cases in, I saw that a spare bottle of oil stored in there had tipped over, and the cap had perished, so all the bags of useful things and bits of carpet I keep there were soaked in engine oil.
I had to chuck them all into the hotel car park bins - the receptionist was very nice about this - and then make a makeshift suitcase platform out of newspapers so I could drive to Wickes and get lots of blue-roll to clean it up properly.
And then I got the news that my parents' drive won't be finished till at least next Tuesday, so I can't stay there for my birthday at the weekend
Tonight will be my 7th straight night of hotel nomadism.
The silver lining is that I'm getting loads of work done, because the hotel rooms are so unstimulating that they make work seem fascinating.
Also this is all great practice for my plans to be nomadic in Scotland before settling down in a wee place of my own there.

My room here in the Zarnichester Premier Inn overlooks the KFC.
There was a lot of engine revving in their car park about 11.30 last night, but I was so tired I just fell asleep again.
