Hey, I can skip ahead, yeah, that's a good song I never need to listen to again.
2: Helicopter
The one written byanti-semtic Alan Andy Partridge.
It's Horrible!

Re: XTC - Drums and Wires (1979)
This is the sort of song you could only half get away with in 1979. Unless you're American for some reason.

Bit slow, less irritating.
Until the vocals come in.

It's got that nothing really wrong with it, but it's totally unengaging appeal of The Police.
Except it's got plenty wrong with it.

Re: XTC - Drums and Wires (1979)
It dosn't even work as a well (boringly) crafted pop song, with the verse and chorus in mathematical procession circle of fifths or whatever.

Actually it sounds more like Crowded House.
That's not a good thing.

Re: XTC - Drums and Wires (1979)
The distinctive drum pattern was an attempt to invert drum tones and accents in the style of Devo's 1977 rendition of the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction".[22] Partridge remembered his discontent with the time devoted to the song's recording, remarking that "[w]e spent a week doing Nigel and three weeks doing the rest of the album."[1]
You mean spending all the time on the good song that'll get into the chart?
Oh, Devo, that explains a lot.

Reel By Reel
Ska for people who think dancing is "too savage."
And sex while standing is banned in case it leads to dancing. Not a problem for XTC I'd imagine.

'78.
I've heard the first XTC album, sounds like a bunch of art-school chances on the punk bandwagon. In a bad way.
