Re: The Kinks - (Arthur) Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire (1969)
It is over.
It contained one or two catchy tunes but, overall, it was a tedious, self-indulgent mess, reminding us, once again, that ambition can be a terrible thing in the hands of those who don't know what to do with it.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

That was OK.
It was slightly, strangely forgettable though.
Some songs were very sprightly and enjoyable, a couple were genuinely very good and then the rest was a bit flat and underwhelming.
Perhaps the problem with the latter ones was that they tended to be 5-7 minutes long and thus, due to the band's certain limitations, outstayed their welcome.
Very difficult to dislike though.

Sounds identical to The Fall original. They should try harder with their covers. :cobert:

You know when you've heard a song so many times it because kinda unlistenable? I'm getting that, even though I don't think I've actually heard this album version.

Still sounds like The Kinks, sounds like it's forever going to go into another song, I can't quite remember which one, Beetles probably. One of the duffers from Sargent Pepper
