Extension of a Man or Destruction of a Flan?
Re: Donny Hathaway - Extension of a Man (1973)
I like it anyway.

I've just worked out who I thought who this was going to be, Donnie Emerson, out of Donnie and Joe Emerson

Re: Donny Hathaway - Extension of a Man (1973)
I could imagine him doing this at the Fiesta Club, sandwiched between turns by Marti Caine and Bobby Knutt.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

It is over.
That was a very ordinary album, devoid of imagination and inspiration.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

Of course he would've had to endure the ceaseless racial abuse and constant hurling of bananas.

Re: Donny Hathaway - Extension of a Man (1973)
I know now why I'd held back so long doing this album.
If you're not that into gospel-infused soul and lounge jazz backed up by epic production and arrangements, then it's going to mostly bore your tiny mind out of your cranium and then land with a "SPLAT!" on your fold-out caravan table.
Poor old Donny - and God rest his soul.
Despite the countless brilliances, his albums always get bogged down in an inadvertent mire of overwrought melancholy and ultra-technical brilliance that smothers any of the finer elements.
Still, the opening two tracks are worth ★★★★★ alone.

I've decided I really don't care much for soul.
