Back in late 1996 I worked at Wormwood Scrubs prison and many of the wings and adjoining corridors were pained this same shade of pink (others were painted industrial grade powder blue).

The colour engendered a baleful aura of wholesale and indiscriminate violence not just amongst the 'lags', but also us scum who worked in 'canteen'.

I went so mental one day that I got fired.
