I'm sure I would've refused them if I'd noticed they'd been put in my bag. Colbert

I would recommend eating them, as I can think of no other use for them.

Don't try and mash them. Just dry them out in a pan over a very low heat and serve as an accompaniment to the protein.

I've read online that they're best roasted slowly in the oven with olive oil, salt, pepper and herbs.

Much e-discussion seems to revolve around the label disclaimer that they shouldn't be fried.

It seems that the water content causes them to spit and even explode, showering the hapless chef with scalding hydro/tuber effluvium. dontpanic

Can confirm sad yes

I've read online that they're best roasted slowly in the oven with olive oil, salt, pepper and herbs.

I will try that, I've been looking for something to do with my emergency tin of same which I bought 4 years ago.

Mine were Waitrose natch.

The slow roasting option does sound quite nice, bit of a faff though.

Two of them exploded while I was re-basting, showering me with scalding oleo-tuber effluvium!

They were very nice actually. Yes, they were also dangerous to cook, and it was a big faff as Nik surmised, and they weren't as nice as roasted parboiled fresh potatoes, but they were still pretty delicious.

It's partly the perspective. But they were very tightly packed, they wouldn't come out when I tipped the tin up, I had to ease them out with a fork. That's why one of them is showing signs of damage.
