As we all know, the Beatles' Red and Blue albums have been reissued - but there's one thing about them that's tearing the Internet apart. And that's I Am the Walrus which is dramatically different from the version we've all grown up with.

But is it an improvement?

Or are the changes a sacrilege beyond human endurance?

I do remember that, when Sgt Pepper's was remixed and remastered, it was pointed out that the Beatles didn't bother getting involved with the stereo mixes of their records and only concerned themselves with the mono mixes. Hence, the original stereo mixes were often radically different form the mono ones. I wonder what the Beatle-approved mono mix of I am the Walrus sounded like, assuming there was one.

Is this for something to do as a Micro-playlist?

I've just been listening to other mono mixes. I Feel Fine has way more reverb on it than the stereo version we're all used to, and Paperback Writer has louder backing vocals and a slightly different fadeout than the stereo version.

Personally, I think it's an interesting experiment but I prefer the old version.

I have an original 7" single of "I am the Walrus"....It was the "B" side to "Hello-Goodbye" which I got my Mum to buy for me when I was very small.
She didn't like it much.

I haz listened to them. The new one is clearer and more hifi but it doesn't suit the song, everything about the new production is inferior to the choices made on the original.

When it comes to the songs with good stereo mixes the whole things are a waste of time anyway, and yes a cash grab by billionaires.

Actually, I can't see what so bad with mono anyway for the earlier stuff.
