https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-67731243Pop star Olly Alexander will represent the United Kingdom at next year's Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden.
The former Years and Years frontman will hope to improve on the UK's disappointing performance this year, when Mae Muller came second to last.
Alexander is already known around Europe for hits including Desire, King and If You're Over Me.
He is also a Bafta-nominated actor, having played the lead role in Channel 4's hard-hitting Aids drama It's A Sin.
The star's participation was revealed during the final of Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday, months before the BBC usually confirms its Eurovision plans.

In a press release, he added: "I really can't believe I'm going to be a part of such a special legacy and fly the flag for the UK in the gayest way possible.

Not keen on him sorry. I'll wait until the song is released, but I am not keen backing us this year. Before anyone asks, it's not because he's too "feminine" looking, it's just I can't stand him as a person.

It does seem like Eurovision are channelling the gays to the extreme, as if gay people need to see other gay people to be able to enjoy Eurovision.
I wonder if they're getting the announcement in early to try and send shockwaves around Europe to be noticed first and get people talking, to get the song promoted early like they do on the continent as we're usually a bit late to the party. Whether it will work, time will tell.

Precisely my thoughts on this. Throw in as well, you know what the BBC is like. Be interesting how he gets well received in the Ukraine, the UKs new BFF in Eurovision.
He's not even the first song chosen (France chose in November), but I think that's what to do. Get us noticed and make sure we're in the running so to speak. Problem is, he's not a very good live singer. Then again, that didn't stop Poland last year finishing in the top 10 of the public vote.
Thing is, I'd rather the UK go down the rock route or even something like Sam Ryder again in 2022 which showcased what we're really good at.
As a bonus, I hope Poland send this guy again (Kristian Ochman their 2022 singer):

This is the thing. Sam Ryder's success showed that it doesn't have to be done in the "gayest way possible" to achieve success at Eurovision. Gay people of course have always been attracted to Eurovision but it doesn't need to be forcibly gay!

I loved 'King' by Years and Years. I bought their first album in a charity shop and ended up loving every track. I've never heard anything by them since.
I think he's a good choice but I dunno what he's like 'live'.

Not on the actual continent though. I think we might usually be one of the last to present our offering, when they'd been at it for months in the rest of Europe. This is all part of ze plan.
