I could've sworn we had a thread for lava lamps but I can't find any trace of it.

Therefore, here is our brand new lava lamp thread.

Exhibit One: I Bought the World's Largest Lava Lamp!

Turns out that having a huge lava lamp isn't as exciting as I'd expected it to be.

I've had a lava lamp since the late 90s, though it's stored away at present. I love it but there are three main problems:

1) They take like an hour and a half to get going

2) The lightbulb used to need replacing quite often, perhaps due to overheating

3) I'm not even sure you can get these *hot* lightbulbs that melt the wax these days!

I bought my grandfather a lava lamp, because he couldn’t sleep in total darkness due to a battle trench collapse in Burma where he was the only survivor.

It was a blue one, so the wax was sort of a lilac purple colour when it got going. He thought it was some space age miracle and took to it like it was his favourite invention.

It was an incongruous sight for a 90 year old to have sitting on his bedside table. Anyway, there’s a use for them other than stoned students sitting in a trance.
