I thought it was all an elaborate joke.

I got Volume 4!
There's a copy of Sid's Pie Stall, where that bit where Billy the Kerr comes in and tells them that Sid's pie stall is closing is extended, 'well, if you're going to be like that I'm not going to tell you'.
I just love those pointless bickering bit of the later (radio) Hancocks that don't move the plot along.

Particularly because Sid has already told Hancock about the pie stall, and they've been talking about it for the last 5 minutes.
My brother says that the bit about Fred coming over 'from Italy when he was 3 to take over the pie stall when his dad died' is a glitch, because Fred couldn't have run a pie stall aged 3.
But I say that the coming over, aet. 3, and the taking over the pie stall, were separate events. Fred's dad had Fred sent over so as to be prepared for his death in the future.

Whatever is being discussed here I just want to add that I don't think it's completely out of the box for a 3 year old to run a stall. I myself used to operate around the West End with a small trestle table when not much older. It's amazing what people will buy. Considering I'd dragged most of it out of skips and bin bags, it made me feel quite ill at times to think too deeply about it.

On a related subject I had to use a phone box this morning and would you believe it's now a 60p minimum charge! On the plus side it didn't stink of p*ss and wasn't plastered in calling cards offering varied delights.
