Despite the relief of having finally realised The Move I'm sure there's a sense of melancholy when you survey the empty shell.
Despite the various annoyances, 'twas an home.

Re: Moving house
Yes. It was a home, and now it isn't, it's just a house with some of my stuff left in it, and an improvised bed on the floor upstairs.
It's the first time that I've had this bittersweet feeling when leaving one of my dwellings. Perhaps because I've spent a longer continuous time here than I have anywhere else.
Still, I'm selling it to someone who is really keen to live here, that's a nice positive feeling.

Re: Moving house
We didn't exchange as planned yesterday, as the buyer is waiting for a revised mortgage offer or something. He still wants to complete on the same day though. I said that that would only be possible if he'd got his mortgage ducks in a row by Tuesday.

We've exchanged!
I've got to be out of here by a week tomorrow!

A letter has arrived for the new owner.
I guess I really am leaving now.

Re: Moving house
I was tempted to do that, and trigger off a string of After Hours style complications.

Re: Moving house
I'm going back to the house tomorrow for a final check, and then I'm taking the keys to the estate agent.
I'm in a hotel now - on the way here I realised I would be early, so I turned off the A12 and came via the back lanes. It was one of those strangely pleasant journeys which have marked important changes in my life. I could feel the stress of the parking/neighbours thing just dropping off me as I drove peacefully along.

If on your final way out from this wonderful town you happen to drive thorough the Lexden area give me a wave....I will be watching (Well, actually I won't, as I will be at work)

Re: Moving house
I did drive through Lexden on my way to the house this morning - I used the secret jam-busting back route up Church Lane and along the Commons.
Fanchester is now officially Zarnichester.

Re: Moving house
I might be moving too. It seems that I can settle the reduced amount of debt, invest in the business, put some sensible sum aside in the way of sensible people, and buy a larger flat.
I see some flats with three or even four bedrooms in Lissenden Gardens NW5, which I like the style of. There's a lido right over the back. People seem to live in their flats all the time there. I've become increasingly tired of the revolving door here, and it can be depressing in winter with so many lights off. This used to be such a nice area, but it's become very tacky now.

I really like this...
https://www.chestertons.com/en-gb/property-to-buy/gb/gospel+oak/knt160271
Balconies on both sides, a study, a double reception room. Currently lived in by a person of criminal taste, a flat longing to be loved.

Re: Moving house
108 sq m, that's bigger than my former house.

Re: Moving house
A friend of my mothers is downsizing. My brother has received all of this dreadful Wayfair style stuff. I am myself now in possession of a blonde wood tripod based light which also looks as if it came from there. It doesn't fit properly inside the cupboard I was hoping to hide it in whenever she isn't visiting.
His predicament is greater than mine, so I shouldn't complain. Last week we were over there painting. Skirting boards are where I really come into my own. At one point we had the radio up while painting the garden wall when the woman who lives on the other side suddenly appeared above the brickwork.
She said to my brother 'it's always fun for a family when one of their own makes it to Chiswick'. I gently informed her that I had deigned to trek to the borough of Hounslow from my own home in Knightsbridge, having picked my mother up on my way through South Kensington. So that was her dealt with.
She's probably the sort who'd appreciate some Wayfair cast offs, so that might solve our problems regarding what to do with it all.
Next time I'm out that way I'll give her door a knock, and tell her I thought specifically of her when wondering who might want this stuff.

Re: Moving house
I thought your ultimate domicile dream was to share a mega-flat with your brother round the back of Horrids?
