| Now that I've replaced my disk drive with the SSD, my laptop boots up in seconds, instead of minutes. _________________ |

| Maybe I should try again and change the hard drive in my NAS drive? |

| 7% it's flying! Wonder how safe the old hard drive would be to use as a backup for the backup? I know the S.M.A.R.T. is reporting errors, but it's been fine for ages _________________ a "couldn't care less, come on life ... amuse me, merchant" |

| My external hard drives will now only work with my Linux laptop. None of my Windows machines will recognise them any more. _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." Where do they live then?'

| Formatted in Risling FS or whatever it was called? The NAS Drive finished rebuilding the Raid, but it's still 'Degraded' I have put it on Auto rebuild and rebooted it. |

| Wot's the Masterboot record or whatever it they use in Windows these days? In other news, set the NAS to rebuild the raid again, unplugged the network cable so I couldn't effect it, not that should matter, and it's still degraded, go on, get a GOOD MENTAL PICTURE… SSHed on, the magic words to get in, and I always forget is sshd@192.168.1.2 sshd is the elven for friendroot@WDMyCloudMirror root # mdadm --detail /dev/md1 /dev/md1: Version : 01.00 Creation Time : Thu Mar 23 14:13:15 2017 Raid Level : raid1 Array Size : 3902822264 (3722.02 GiB 3996.49 GB) Used Dev Size : 7805644528 (7444.04 GiB 7992.98 GB) Raid Devices : 2 Total Devices : 2 Preferred Minor : 1 Persistence : Superblock is persistent Intent Bitmap : Internal Update Time : Mon Nov 8 09:38:10 2021 State : active, degraded, recovering Active Devices : 1 Working Devices : 2 Failed Devices : 0 Spare Devices : 1 Rebuild Status : 6% complete Name : 1 UUID : 533be0be:4ea2fe1d:4b4ef293:1f7fdb9f Events : 31944 Number Major Minor RaidDevice State 2 8 2 0 spare rebuilding /dev/sda2 1 8 18 1 active sync /dev/sdb2 I shall wait till it rebuilds then do a full check of the drives, Maybe it's because I changed drive 1 not drive 2? Or is it drive 0 and 1? |

| That's the original second drive. I shall back everything up to my new external hdd get another NAS drive and set up the RAID and copy everything back. I didn't like the way when it only had the new drive in I couldn't connect to it, and it said it had no space left on the website, I'm hoping I can just recreate a new raid array with two drives. _________________ a "couldn't care less, come on life ... amuse me, merchant" |

| Inspired by SibeyBorgle's efforts I investigated my troublesome disc further. It turns out that I formatted it Linux ext4 When I tried some known FAT32 discs, they worked fine. Which is a bit odd because I could have sworn they didn't work before. _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." Where do they live then?'

Tried everything, but other physically rebuilding the platters in a clean room, it's dead Jim. After putting it in the freezer, trying it a couple of times, when I put it on it's side that external hard drive started working and I managed to copy all my 'files' off it, Still seems to be working fine, at all angles, which is odd… The Nas drive, so I changed both hard drives with new ones, had to send one back because it sounded all hummy, occasional ticky and well, faulty They sent me out another one, that rebuilt the raid, and seems to be working fine, I'm too scared to do a full disk test. I've just remembered I've not checked if they've re-funded me the postage to send the old one back. In retrospect I should have got a couple of 8tb drives, as I was copying everything off them anyway, |

| My 2TB Seagate Goflex external drive has gone wrong/off. It's something (I think/hope) to do with the (possibly pointless) 'cradle' or adaptor dock it sits in. I'm relatively sure that the information is retrievable, but it seems that the connecting power source has gone. It's quite an old piece of kit and I probably should have purchased a more powerful and smaller and up-to-date back up/replacement by now, but, y'know... You forget, then you drift into the slow eddies of complacency... Anybork, this is deeply distressing me/to me. It has almost all of my music on it. 5+ months of it. _________________ OK, I'm an old shoe
