"The disco, where the decor matches the bare asbestos ceiling."
"Uncle Gary, the children's entertainment officer, is very, very good for the children."
Only in the 70s.

Can "Uncle Gary" - in quotes - be the official children's entertainment officer of the New Hall of the Wendigo?

Re: Olden day good times!
All these Butlins references are triggering flashbacks to a school trip I took to one of their camps in April 1981.
And they've sent me down a deep rabbit hole regarding the horrible nearby zoo we visited as part of out bleak South Coast Easter week.

And I thought I had problems because my memories of the last Friday afternoon there reminded me of the rollercoaster bit in The Girl Who Was Death, if there'd been a rollerskating tutor at the fairground who had shown sympathy for Number Six while still taking the p*ss out of his M&S tracksuit, all while the sun went round to the west along the coast behind an April 1981 sky of ground-glass altocumulus.
Don't worry though, the trip had a positive outcome, I read Doctor Who and the Cybermen on the journey back, and when we reached South London I got to see the forecourt of Tooting Bec tube station while everyone, including me, whistled the Citizen Smith theme tune.
Just for once I was part of the moment

ave only just found this site, so hope i am writing in the right place. I have been obsessed with Rainbows end for the last 35 years, i have photos of myself with Humpty Dumpty and sitting in the green chair next to mickey mouse. When i revisited with my own children several years ago i found it all derelict i climbed over the fence and climbed through the undergrowth

Pleasant video footage of Truro in 1990. But even as a meat eater I found the scene at 1:05 quite... shocking! And the shoppers just walk on by. Imagine the outrage if they still did that so publicly in this day and age!
I guess I should put a warning here for people who don't want to see dead animals.

Re: Olden day good times!
I've just realised I've posted a video from 1990 in the olden day good times thread - there's video footage of me in Cornwall from the same year, just two months later in fact.

Re: Olden day good times!
Do you really find that shocking?
I'd say avoid walking down Turnpike Lane or Ridley Road market on a hot Summer midweek afternoon then.

I don't think I've ever seen whole pigs or any other animal strung up like that. The butchers shop windows I know are usually somewhat more ambiguous than that.

Skinned Rabbits are a bit of a shock the first time you see 'em.
