M1 then M62. It's about 50 miles more, but you don't get stuck behind someone driving at 35mph on a 50mph until they get to a place you can pass them and they suddenly find their accelerator.

I don't think I've heard of the Woodhead Pass. I've been on the Snake Pass a couple of times, circa 1996 and 2002, and stopped at Ladybower(?) reservoir both times.

Snakehead Pass sounds like some place in a Western.

Like Scorpion Sting Gulch.

Or Tarantula Creek.

Or Rabid Rabbit Ravine.

I've been over the Snake Pass. I like the pylon on the big block of concrete on the Manchester side.

Tbh the scariest thing about it was the gigantic traffic jam I got stuck in trying to get down into Manchester afterwards.
