EPMD or LMFAO?
Re: EPMD - Strictly Business (1988)
Spooky John Carpenter-type intro.

This might be a DJ-led instrumental.

Re: EPMD - Strictly Business (1988)
Quite usual on hip-hop albums up until the early '90s.
Y'know, like the DJ was a proper member of the band.

Re: EPMD - Strictly Business (1988)
It definitely brings another flava flavor flavour to proceedings.

I'm betting that DJ Scratch performed this more-or-less live in the studio.

Last track - Jane.
Is it a cover of the Jefferson Starship song?

First part of EPMD's ongoing "Jane" saga.
Every subsequent album they ever did had a "Jane" track on it.

Re: EPMD - Strictly Business (1988)
It is over.
That was a very monotonous album whose tracks failed to vary, progress or build.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

An important, seminal album - years ahead of its time.
Pioneering the use of loops and samples rather than drum machines and Fairlight-esque effects.
The style of rapping was also advanced for its time - perhaps Public Enemy were at the same level, but genuinely original.
A loose, relaxed and cool as ice delivery from two artists totally at ease with one another.
Brilliant.

Re: EPMD - Strictly Business (1988)
I have to admit that I am quite disappointed by the other scores.
