XTC or Castrol GTX?
Re: XTC - Drums and Wires (1979)
Like Elvis Costello minus a melodic hook.

Re: XTC - Drums and Wires (1979)
Getting a bit Residents-esque on the chorus with the vocals now.

Re: XTC - Drums and Wires (1979)
Intro sounding like "This Town Ain't Big Enough...".

Re: XTC - Drums and Wires (1979)
This is better, but ultimately a case of too little too late.

Re: XTC - Drums and Wires (1979)
It is over.
Apart from the first and last tracks, that was a self-indulgent mess and didn't work at all.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

Well, that was mostly an ignominiously pretentious and irksome pile of septic bobbins.
Book-ended by a serviceable nu-wayve pop single and an actual half-decent song it struggled to flicker like as if it was anything more than a pale, wan, pallid, washed-out, bleached flame of the inspiration needed to attain a place amongst the pantheonZ of so-called hi-arrt.
On reflection, the whole thing was obliterated as an enjoyable experience the moment the opening hit single transitioned to the monstrously awful second song.
It seemed to be a song about about a girl done by a band who didn't know any girls.
Anyway, I always knew Andy Partridge was a wrong-un - not untalented, but way too try-hard and smug for his own good.
This album more-or-less confirmed all of my suspicions.
