The production's OK though.

And Somerfield's voice is pleasingly modulated.

It was a solid album with no real duffers but lost momentum early on and never really tried to recover it.

Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it. Excited

I went ★★★★☆ too many covers, that terrible Heatwave one, but the two singles were fab and some of the darker numbers worked 4 me.

The production was mostly güd, and not as dated as cutting edge 1984 record normally sounds. ~~Because it sounded like a 1980 one~~

Not really my cup of tea, but OK.

Less enervating than I was fearing, although Somerville's falsetto does wear me down a bit a bit after a bit.

It was good to hear him singing in a lower register on that one song - showed that he has proper vocal talent, rather than just a warbling one-trick-pony.

The relatively clean, mellow production helped a good deal.

Well, I really enjoyed that for the most part. Thankfully there are only a couple of slow and miserable songs, but I already wasn't keen on It Ain't Necessarily So. If it wasn't for those couple of songs I'd give it 5 stars. Some of the early to mid 80s almost-Hi-NRG production on the other album tracks was right up my street and pretty much what I expected.
