Re: Breaking learning thread Part 2.
Carrie Nation was a real person!
Caroline Amelia Nation (November 25, 1846 – June 9, 1911), often referred to by Carrie, Carry Nation, or Hatchet Granny, was a radical member of the temperance movement, which opposed alcohol before the advent of Prohibition.
Nation is noted for attacking alcohol-serving establishments (most often taverns) with a hatchet.
Nation was also concerned about tight clothing for women; she refused to wear a corset and urged women not to wear them because of their harmful effects on vital organs.
She described herself as "a bulldog running along at the feet of Jesus, barking at what He doesn't like", and claimed a divine ordination to promote temperance by destroying bars.

I'm intrigued by how you could have heard of her, but thought she wasn't real?

The UK has hosted Eurovision more often than anywhere else. Because we tend to host it when the winners don't want to.

Coincidence, or something altogether more sinister?

The speed limit for vans on dual carriageways is 60mph! That means I unwittingly broke the law on the A12 last time I hired one to move stuff back and forth to Zarnichester!
Also it's 50mph on single carriageway roads.
But doesn't apply on motorways.

That explains all the vans I see with 50 & 60 roundels on the back which are nonetheless going as fast as I am.
I thought it was some fuel efficiency thing no one was paying attention to.

I've just found out how toffee's made. It's just heated butter and sugar. I always assumed it was made from a special ingredient that came from something like a... ...toffee tree...
