Gladiators comes to Sheffield
Are we all excited about the brand new series of Gladiators, currently being filmed in Sheffield, and being hosted by Bradley Walsh?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/65775286
Meet the Gladiators
Top row – Left to right: Legend, Fire, Bionic, Diamond, Nitro
Legend
Needing no introduction, bringing his power and strength to the arena, he simply is Legend.
Fire
Fire is fast, unpredictable, dangerous and will ravage anyone in her path.
Bionic
Contenders stay out of the path of Bionic, he will crush anyone who gets in his way.
Diamond
Don’t be deceived by Diamond’s bright beauty, she is unbreakable and super strong.
Nitro
With his lightning fast speed and agility, contenders will have their work cut out getting past Nitro.
Second row – Left to right: Electro, Giant, Steel, Apollo, Comet
Electro
Electro will make sparks fly, so don’t be shocked when she unleashes her full force onto the contenders.
Giant
He may look like a big, friendly Giant, but don't be fooled, he won't be holding back when it comes to the games.
Steel
Steel is strong, he’s tough and just like Steel, nothing is going to break him!
Apollo
Apollo has the cheeky good looks of a Greek god and the speed of a rocket. He wants to win and won’t stop until he does.
Comet
Comet is a force of nature, flashing past you. Collide with her and you’ll be dust!
Third row – Left to right: Viper, Athena, Fury, Phantom
Viper
A man of few words but beware, Viper vows to smash any contender that stands in his way.
Athena
Just like the ancient Greek goddess of war and wisdom, Athena is a combination of brain, brawn and beauty. She may be small but she’s mighty.
Fury
Contenders beware, when that game starts you’ll feel the wrath of Fury.
Phantom
Unbelievably strong and frighteningly unstoppable, Phantom is bringing all his force and will leave you shivering in his wake!
Bottom row – Left to right: Sabre, Dynamite
Sabre
Fierce, powerful and agile, the main attributes of a Sabre, she’s fearless and ferocious, once she catches sight of prey, there’s no escape!
Dynamite
She may look small, but do not underestimate Dynamite, she’ll blast into the competition and obliterate her opponents.

Re: Gladiators comes to Sheffield
I know someone who's been to see it being filmed.

I notice the maniators have mostly blue outfits, and the ladyators have mostly magenta ones.
But different characters have varying ratios of dominant and non dominant colour. So for example 'Bionic' appears completely blue, whereas 'Viper' has a big magenta splash on his thigh and 'Phantom' has a magenta sunhat.

I knew someone who went to see the original series being filmed at the NIA in Birmingham. I wonder if the audience still chant Another One Bites the Dust or We Will Rock You or whatever it was, and have those giant foam pointy fingers.

Re: Gladiators comes to Sheffield
Oh, I forgot someone had created an official Sheffield Gladiators thread.
Well, overall I quite liked it. They've stuck heavily to the original format, including exactly the same 90s theme tune and use of songs such as Another One Bites the Dust when someone falls off a... thingy. Also, the pointy foam fingers in the audience are visible once again.
The format has been has been slightly modified for modern tastes: the Gladiators are fairly kind to to the contestants after the event - when the contestant loses they hug them/fist bump with them and say things like "You did really well" (even though they lost). I don't remember Wolf saying things like that. I guess this is the whole kindness in sports thing.
There is at least one Wolf-like Gladiator among them who was angrily screwing up his face and getting boos. That was a bit more like it. There has to be a pantomime villain.
One notices that almost everyone is covered in tattoos these days.
The ladies are a bit more.... butch and openly lesbian than they used to be.
The men are beefier - not in a good way.
They put all the weights on the screen of the male Gladiators (one was 20 stone!) but didn't mention the weights of the female Gladiators.
Filmed in Sheffield (mentioned in the arena several times), the two male contestants were from Doncaster and Leeds. Yorkshire overkill?
If I think of anything else I'll report back.

Are they still on the go? They must be about 70. You’d think they’d be waiting next to NJ in the pension day queue at the Post Office instead of wrestling on television. Good for them.

All the Gladiators in this version are new and young.

Interesting that some of the man gladiators have tops that expose their ch*st, and some of them have more modest ones.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c72yy1484d3oTwo stars of the new Gladiators TV series have put their muscles to good use at Sheffield railway station.
Giant and Steel surprised passengers on Thursday by helping to carry luggage on and off trains to promote the rebooted game show.

Re: Gladiators comes to Sheffield
It seems the new Gladiators has been really popular by today's standards - 8 million viewers for the first episode, and lots of online gossip and excitement, which is needed in this day and age.
I'd guess there'll be another series recorded this year along with a Christmas special, action figures and other merchandise to follow.

The Gladiators semi-finals have been removed from tomorrow's BBC One schedule because sh*tball!
It's the only "new" programme I watch these days!
