Amherst Records?
Isn't Amherst the lunatic asylum from that Edgar Allan Poe story?

It sounds a lot like that Gladys Knight song "Don't Change It" or something.

Like the theme to some long forgotten BBC comedy show…

And that Hugh McCracken of Paul McCartney backing band fame was playing guitar on this version.Butterfield wrote:Hard to believe Hamish of Paul McCartney backing band "fame" co-wrote a song like this.

Which Cilla Black did a cover of in 1980.

It's not exactly shrieking "Hey Girl, Come and Get It" to me this.
More like, Hey Girl, Come in, sit down, have a petit four while I finish this washing up...
Great Train Journeys with Michael Portillo's on on the telly.

It is over.
They played the right notes in the right places but it all felt strangely impersonal.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

Well, that was somewhat lacklustre compared with what I was expecting. I love The Hustle but the rest was mostly quite tame, if not bland. And I only realised there were a million covers after I'd created the thread.
As a music journalist I'd probably give it 2/5, but I personally didn't dislike it and I was happy enough listening along - it was just a bit.... generic.

I thought that was Phil McCracken. Or Hugh Janus. Or somebody Fitzgerald or something.
