Can I shock you?
Here is where we admit to things we secretly like, despite being loath to and/or are ashamed to admit we alike.
Also, things that no one would of'd assumed - knowing, after all these years () each other as intimately as we all do - any of us would.

I love doing Jigsaw Puzzles, don't do them very often though but always pleased to get one as a present.
Biggest one I have done was 7500 pieces.

I sometimes go into Catholic Churches to light candles and pray.

I played the trumpet from age 8 to 11 and got a merit on a trumpet exam. I never regretted giving it up.

My primary school orchestra, of which I was a part of with my trumpet playing, won the local primary schools orchestra competition one particular year.
We got awarded a trophy, which the teacher-cum-orchestra leader received and I never saw it again.
Actually, it might have been one of those trophies that gets given out then handed back at the end of the season ready to be awarded to another school.

And what about your poor parents, whose dreams of seeing you perform at the Albert Hall were so cruelly and selfishly dashed? Did you give any thought to them or did your 11 year old self just say ‘me, me, me’?

Yes, I remember. The year I won one, for a primary schools singing contest, I insisted I be allowed to take it home, and then refused to return it unless it was inscribed. This they agreed to, and being the first, my name was carved at the top of it. I don’t think this displays incipient diva tendencies at all - I was striking a blow for recognition across the borough, which the generations after me would benefit from. Quite a selfless act really.

I kind of feel like most parents would be delighted if their child stopped playing the trumpet.cosmictanya wrote:Butterfield wrote:I played the trumpet from age 8 to 11 and got a merit on a trumpet exam. I never regretted giving it up.

Re: Can I shock you?
For years I had a car that only had a tape deck.
On one of my tapes were a variety of country and western cheese, show tunes, and the odd Jesus freak classic (a friends sister was a raving evangelical who introduced me) and some hymns - Ruthie Henshall ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ and Tammy Faye Bakkers masterful ‘Don’t Give Up, You're On The Brink Of A Miracle’, ‘Abide With Me’ by some Welsh church choir, and Joe South ‘Games People Play’, etc.
It’s possible that ‘Think Twice’ by Celine Dion also featured on this tape. Juice Newton’s ‘Angel of the Morning’. ‘The Sun’ll Come Out Tomorrow’ from Annie.
This tape was strictly for motorway driving only - not for around town where passers by might hear it.

Well, my dad was actually a music teacher so I guess he wasn't best pleased, though I don't remember much of a fuss at the time. As an 11-year-old it felt quite empowering. My brother was always and still is the more musically gifted one anyway. My best friend at school had also just given up the violin so we were 11-year-old musical rebels together.

So you could blow and he could stroke - you must’ve been a popular pair as the years wore on.

Blow, stroke and fiddle. Not to mention the spit valve.

‘Who are you going to pick chuck, the blower at number 1 who wants to show you his spit valve, or number 2, our fiddler looking to stroke?’

It should be done.
Two other hits from that best mix tape I ever owned - Rhinestone Cowboy and Galveston.
