| Where we can discuss these.
I had one yesterday - looking for door numbers for this house in B&Q, they had 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 0. I went off to ask where the 9 was, and this young guy had to explain to me that 9 was 6 turned upside down. |

| That's not always the case though. Some fonts are designed so a 6 looks fine upside down as a 9, but not all are, and the latter will have a dedicated 9. _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." Where do they live then?'

| 'Tis true.
There are often quite subtle differences even in fonts where the 6 and 9 ostensibly look identical but when you invert one or t'other it looks all wrong.
The size of the circular part of the number is usually a factor.
9s especially often have a slightly slightly larger circle, as well as a more extravagant tail. _________________ Disprove the return of a potato (5)

| So I wasn’t mad - I was looking for something that I instinctively knew is often different, and that’s why I couldn’t recognise what I was seeing. |

| My parents have one of those wooden block perpetual calendars where you invert the 6 to get a 9, and while the 6 looks fine, the 6 is slanted wrongly, it looks like it will tip over.
Perhaps forgivable in that situation, cos there's only 2 cubes = 12 faces to accommodate all the digits necessary for the numbers 1-31. _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." Where do they live then?'

Only when he went away, I was struck that he probably thought he was probably less flirting and more thought I was some poor dear old enough to be his mother (something like policemen getting younger and younger). As someone old enough to be his mother, I will say he was a charming young man. |

| I’ve had a blonde afternoon, in compiling my mother’s treat I got lost in admiring old pictures of myself. There’s one where I am 17, surrounded by friends, and I’d forgotten just how fantastic I looked in comparison to everyone else. In fact, I’m the only one among them whose look there hasn’t dated, because it was deliberately above trend to begin with, and there is only one who is physically better looking in structural terms. She really was very very pretty, perfect in fact, but she never blended in with the exchange students. |
