Re: The all-new all things driving thread
I had an awful journey back from Zarnichester today. The A12 was blocked twice, so I had to come the back way through the villages instead, and just as I was coming down the hill to Fansford, an apocalyptic rainstorm began, and soon all the roads were inches deep in rainwater.
When I finally got within a mile of home I found the flyover closed! I had to turn round and come all the way back through the floods, and get home the other way past the prison. It took ages.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
The storage place has a Halfords next to it, and every week, more Halfords customers are parking in the spaces outside the containers, which are clearly marked as for container tenant use only.
Also, on my way home, there were two incidents of other drivers being in the wrong lane at roundabouts and inconveniencing me (who was in the correct lane).

I took my car for its service and MOT today.
Unlike for the previous 15 years, I had no need to worry that doing this left my parking space open to unwanted vehicles, because I now have a private parking space at the family seat.![aristojar](/users/3715/63/33/29/smiles/2591357779.gif)

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
I made my usual weekend visit to Zarnichester today, to curate my rubbish possessions at the storage place. All the petrol stations on the A12 had run out of petrol, but luckily I was able to get some at the big Sainsburys on the outskirts of Zarnichester, by queueing for about 5 minutes.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
I filled up with petrol on Friday evening and I was about the fourth car in the queue, but it moved quickly and I was done within just a few minutes. It was an Asda pay-at-the-pump with no kiosks yet there were several members of staff wandering around pointing people here and there.
I'll be glad when we're all driving electric cars and can charge them at home - getting petrol has long been one of my least favourite driving activities at the best of times.

I got more petrol at the same place today. I queued for about 2 minutes.
But there was only room for £6 worth in the tank.

Do we need an "All-new all things panic-buying" thread? ![hmm](/users/3715/63/33/29/smiles/3462713076.gif)

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
So it turns out that the director of the Road Haulage Association, Rod McKenzie, who in some media circles has been accused of allegedly contributing to the recent queues at petrol stations and has been interviewed several times on TV, is the same Rod McKenzie who used to be on Radio 1 with Simon Mayo and was relatively recently seen presenting on circa 1989 repeats of Top of the Pops with the likes of Sybil Ruscoe! ![gasp](/users/3715/63/33/29/smiles/714663790.gif)

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
The Asda petrol station was cordoned off by metal barriers at 8am.
But the Sainsburys one was doing a lively trade. It was about as busy as it ever gets under normal circumstances, say at 4pm on Friday.
Again I only had room for £6 worth, but by god I was going to have it.

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
I won't need to fill up for another week - hopefully by then the army and their Green Goddesses will have taken action at the petrol stations. ![box](/users/3715/63/33/29/smiles/2226079238.gif)

I got some the other day at 04:20 at Hythe Tesco when I was on my way to work, I just stuck the nozzle in all casual like, took it out at the first click as if I wasn't bothered how much I put in, paid, drove off and then realised I had only put 3/4 of a tank in...

Re: The all-new all things driving thread
I'm back in the Midlands and all the petrol stations I drove past yesterday early evening were open and had what looked like a normal amount of cars at them.
