My parents in Essex reported an excellent storm about 6 hours after I left.
Myself, as I drove north I just saw huge clouds moving purposefully across the sky, and got a few drops of rain as I crossed lines of showers.

From the 'bubbly' look of the sky yesterday afternoon I expected thunder, but in the event it just rained overnight.

If you put the 24hr option on the lightning map you see yesterday's thunderstorms stretched from Swindon in the south west, narrowly missing Birmingham and the Black Country and stretching up over Liverpool and Morecambe Bay and the west of Scotland. Pretty much everywhere else was unaffected.

It's getting gradually closer, but it seems to be hanging around over Heathrow, through High Wycombe.
