Penny Marshall? Not one I would have expected. Was only thinking about her a couple days ago, was going to watch an episode of L&S.
Can't do it now, because I'll feel like I'm jumping on the bandwagon.

Laverne & Shirley is one of the few popular shows from the 70s/80s that I had literally never heard of until fairly recently. A friend of mine mentioned it and I hadn't got a clue what he was talking about.

BREAKING LEARNING: I've just read that it's a spin off of Happy Days, which I used to watch.

From its name I thought it was a cop show, much like Cagney & Lacey. Sly

I had no idea it was related to Happy Days. I only have one real memory of the show, and that was Squiggy. Vaguely remember that doing impersonations of him was a thing in the 70s. I imagine it got old pretty quickly.

We seem to have missed a few recent deaths of people beknown to this forum, including the eyepatch-wearing lead singer of Dr. Hook, the lead singer of Marmalade and one of the Beverley Sisters, leaving just one of them still alive.

From two days ago:

Ray Sawyer - the eye-patch wearing singer with Dr Hook & the Medicine Show in the 1970s - has died, aged 81.

Re: Recent deaths of people who don't need their own threads - Page 9 _105017671_6922593e-e995-40fd-abf1-d95800d2d7ea

His wife Linda said Sawyer died "peacefully in his sleep", adding that her "heart is broken."

The band is best known for the song When You're in Love with a Beautiful Woman, which was a number one hit in the UK in 1979.

Sawyer joined Dr Hook in 1969, two years after he lost an eye in a car accident.

I did read that yesterday but having never heard of him didn't bother to open the newsitem. So was he the Captain???

Also very scary to think members of Dr Hook being in their 80s. I'm sure that band are all still in their 50s at most.

DD was indeed the Captain.

He worked with Dennis Wilson quite a bit.

They co-wrote the fairly obscure but quite wonderful single "Sound of Free".

I think DD went by the name Rumbo, or something.

Local TV weather person Dianne Oxberry has died at the age 51,

I'm sure she was only on the telly last week or something.

I'm sure she was only on the telly last week or something.

I know her from three things - the Saturday morning show The 8:15 from Manchester (I think when Going Live was on its summer break), her days as one of Simon Mayo's gang on Radio 1, and seeing her presenting the weather on the BBC North West regional programme when on holiday in the Lake District.

For years I didn't realise all three were the same person, yet I remember each one individually. doh

But I did think he'd died years ago.
