| It is over. That was an unchallenging but pleasant record which gave us plenty of the things we've always loved from other sources and answered, once and for all, what it would sound like if Jeff Lynne joined the Rolling Stones. Now to look back at the thread and see what the Steve Hoffman Forum everybody else made of it. _________________ |

| Well, I didn't like it, Other people songs bolted together with nothing of note added.
Which would be fine, but they're mostly songs I don't much care for.
Reasonably well done, but not for me. I think I shall go... **
Now to look back and see what everyone else thinks. |

| Hard to assess that.
Not a single track was inept or unlistenable, but the absolute and utter wall-to-wall PASTICHE of it all, combined with a c*ck-sure smugness on the part of the main bloke dragged it down on an emotional level.
That said, there were one or two pretty good songs and his intelligence as a songwriter can't really be argued with.
Or perhaps it can.
Being very good at absorbing the stylings and visionary talent of the musicians you admire and then regurgitating them in an effective yet ultimately affective manner is never enough to earn you respect in the long term and in regards the larger and enduring cultural picture.
That's why nobody really remembers World Party. _________________ Have you ever seen a Squonk's tears?
