Re: Bird Words
An hour or so ago, there were a couple of birds on my porch roof. They were in the tit/finch envelope but not of a type I've seen before. They were all grey but with different shades of grey, creating a pattern on their plumage. They also had longer tails than I'm used to finches and large family of small passerine birds possessing. I shall now Google to see if I can identify what they were.

Re: Bird Words
Long Tailed Tit - Too chubby. Markings wrong.
Spotted Flycatcher - Different markings. Tail not long enough.
Chiffchaff - Different markings and colour. Tail not long enough.
Dunnock - Different colort. Tail not long enough.
Wagtail - My first thought was that they were some kind of wagtail but, as I watched them, they resolutely failed to wag their tails.

One of them was hanging from the brickwork above my kitchen window, a few minutes ago and pecking at a cobweb. The Call of the Wendigo wrote:An hour or so ago, there were a couple of birds on my porch roof. I can only assume it was stealing a spider's lunch.
Either that, or eating the spider.

I'm going to have to get out my book of bird identification and find out what they are.

A raven flew over my head, this morning, when I was on the way to the shops.
I know it was a raven and not a crow because it was making the same quacky noises as this...
...which is what made me look upwards in the first place to see what kind of bird such odd noises were coming from.

Re: Bird Words
I've managed to get a much closer look at one of the birds of prey that have been hanging around the area, when one flew down my street, being attacked by a couple of crows.
Now I'm confused about what it was, as the top of its wings were a uniform sandy-red colour. Looking at pictures on the Internet, the wings of common buzzards, honey buzzards and red kites don't match that colour scheme.

Buzzard close encounter!
One flew over, a few minutes ago, when I was walking up the path. It was mere yards away from me and was making the same sound as the ones in this video.
