I am fascinated by industrial history, mill chimneys, dry stone walls, and exploring strange places.

I wonder if he is a member of a certain skyscraper forum. blah blah

He started at the Arts Educational Schools London in 2012 - I'm guessing at 18 - so by that calculation he was born in 1993/94.

Oh I’ve gone off him now, what an awful name.

I knew that about Hebden Bridge. It wasn’t featured much if at all in Happy Valley, although with my knowledge of the town being as sound as it is, I almost expected at least one lesbian in each new scene that unfolded.

Having enjoyed that so much, I then watched Last Tango In Halifax, where Yorkshire lesbianism is heavily featured thank goodness.

If I was going to move to the north and open a lesbian pub, I’d call it The Happy Valley, and have a traditional olde pub sign painted for the outside, showing a pair of female legs forming a valley.

I once drive through Hebden Bridge, about 20 years ago, and I didn't knowingly see any lesbians. Or any rainbow flags or anything. It just looked like a normal Yorkshire mill town.

Isn't it Hebden Bridge in this video?

It doesn't look like a hive of red hot lesbian action.

I think that's an example of the D*ke d*fferential, between the real life bookshop owners lookalikes* and professional p*rn stars.

Why do you have to say these upsetting things? I thought of it as a bucolic sapphic paradise, with the only males around being the well raised, socially attuned kids of lesbians. Lovely pubs, interesting independent bookshops, a high street of communal enterprises, lots of women using canes whether they strictly need to or not, and conversely a lot of motorbikes of all eras, some being used, others being stripped back and rebuilt by expert hands, that kind of thing.

I drove through Sheffieldshire today. Everything appeared to be in order.

I drove past Sheffield south on the M1 the other day and it was 50mph due to roadworks from around Barnsley all the way past pretty much the last Sheffield junction. evil

That said, I do notice an improvement in the car's fuel economy when driving at these lower speeds as the little engine isn't straining so much, which pleases Greta me. happy

Yes, I always notice an uptick on the mpg-ometer after I've been through that 50mph bit of the A1 at Elkesley.

They got rid of that 60mph bit around Sheffield yet?

Is that why they’ve got the 50mph roadworks up? To change the signs. For 5 weeks. Tell Me More

The 50mph roadworks limit is currently overriding the previous 60 limit - extended both ends of it - so who knows what it'll end up as. Probably 20mph, the way things are going. What a Face

One drawback of the 'speed cameras at roadworks' thing is that when there aren't any cameras, people take no notice of the signs at all, even though they're proper official red-bordered circle signs rather than ineffective 70s 'Max speed' signs.

There was a 40mph limit with one lane closed on the M74 yesterday, and no-one was going slower than 60.

There's a 60 limit at Carlisle on the M6 with no cameras, and they've tried to beef it up with POLICE SPEED CHECK AREA signs, to no effect.

I got flashed by a camera on the M1 not so long ago not too far from Sheffield whilst doing 53mph in a reduced-to-50mph zone. Each day for the next couple of weeks I got nervous when the post came, waiting for that brown letter. It never came and I've still never had a fine for my driving in 25 years. bowtie

I very much try to stick (very close) to speed limits - I just don't want the hassle and anxiety and prefer to see cars whizzing past me, knowing that one day they'll get their camera flash or lurking police car flag them down, and I'll wave at them as I go past at the speed limit. SSC wave

I always follow speed restriction signs on roadworks these days, since racing through an ‘adverse camber’ sign years ago with the attitude that they were probably exaggerating. They weren’t. When they said to slow from 70mph to 50mph to 40mph, with a further sign to drop to 30mph just before it, they weren’t joking, and by sailing on at 90mph I nearly ended up upside down.
