Re: The drinking less thread
Once again it's my weekly abstinence night. I shall be going to bed shortly.

Gosh, that was a good night's sleep, 8.30-4.30, and my usual victory omelette for breakfast.
And once again I'm fizzing with energy.
I'm starting to wonder if I'm bipolar, and using alc to control my manic phases.

Re: The drinking less thread
Another night off for me tonight. Unusual for me to do two in one week. But after last night's performance it's more a case of making a virtue out of necessity.

Silly innit.
Don't drink = feel better.
Why do we do it, Countess?
Actually, on reflection, don't answer that.

Re: The drinking less thread
In truth, I've been reasonably OK with a steady intake of decent vin blank, but this new acquisition of, admittedly delicious, straight Canadian rye whiskey has upset the applecart somewhat.
Basically, a hangover from one type of booze is, over time, manageable, but throw in some hard, unrefined liquor as a chaser...

Y'know I've never had a proper hangover at least for bad physical symptoms. I'm more badly effected by caffeine withdrawal if anything.
These days what I do get the day after a night of overly indulgent drinking is just pure, all encompassing existential dread for about 12-18 hours. Oh and a slight clammy feeling.

Because it makes us feel happy when we aren't.
Or if you'd prefer a more positive spin, it lowers our inhibitions so that we may project our true selves upon the world.
Or again, 'it fills a [person] with the mad sweet dream of the past, or with wild visions of the future'.

I've noticed I get a stinking hangover if I have a fatty meal before starting drinking - cheese on toast, or hash browns, or garlic butter potatoes from the Tesco bargain chiller, or spring rolls or egg fried rice.

Re: The drinking less thread
I suffer the worst hangovers from spirits, always have. Grape related drinks in second place as unpleasant but can be dealt with. Beer never, but I don't like it enough to drink in sufficient quantities to inflict suffering.
The best thing I've found is a couple of very cold tall glasses of water, and a cocodamol with each, before bed. Sometimes that alone works. If not then it's cold Ribena, other chilled juices in huge quantities, followed a few hours later by something like a fried egg roll or a thick salt beef sandwich.

Re: The drinking less thread
I never take paracetamol till the alc has worn off, as it adds to the strain on one's liver. I never eat till it's worn off either.
I calculate when it's worn off by taking the midpoint of last night's drinking time (6.30-11.15 so 8.53pm) and adding 1 hour for each unit I drank. I had 13.5 last night as I foolishly watched an extra ep of The Good Life, so I can't eat anything till 10.13am.
I don't care though because I feel fine.

Re: The drinking less thread
I have once again had no booze, a fine night's sleep, and a big omelette breakfast, and now I've got a nice cup of coffee.
I am at peak wholesomeness.

I'm having another no-alc night tonight.
Though I'm making a virtue out of necessity, because last night I got overexcited by the Psychedelic Furs and had way too much to drink.

Re: The drinking less thread
It is the crucial moment. I've drunk all the vodka and tomorrow is Reset Day where drinking is not permitted.
Really I should try and learn to savour this moment because it all gets better from here.
But if I was offered a unit of trade: Phenodihydrochloride Benzelex, street: The embalmer, gosh yes I'd take it right now so as to come up smiling Wednesday morning.

That sounds terrible. If it gets better without, it might be worth stopping for an extended period.

Re: The drinking less thread
Actually I had less yesterday than the last few weeks. I think it's time to stop using the plague as an excuse.
