When I'm drinking I only go on reddit and Mastodon. I wouldn't dream of staggering into a nice polite forum all raucously p****d up.

I'm pleased with myself this morning, because although I drank a lot of sherry and vodka yesterday, I spread it out evenly from noon to midnight, and I feel OK.

I had a very pleasant Christmas coda actually, staying up till 12.30 reading computer magazines and drinking vodka and fizzy spring water to wind down.

I have a morning-after feeling that I haven't had for a long time - I don't have a hangover, or a migraine, and I'm not still drunk. But I don't want anything for breakfast except a cup of coffee and a cracker.

It's transported me back 30 years to Christmas holiday mornings in this same house, where - being home from uni - I'd be recovering from drinking way more in the pub than the modest two gins I had last night.

Despite it being from-the-source Neapolitan amaretto however it just tastes like every other dreadful, puke-sweet amaretto.

Worst still - and this is fever dream memory I have from a 'mixologist' I knew a bit to well back in the day - sweet garbage like this goes remarkably well as a 50/50 shot glass cocktail with a smokey Scotch.

His monstrous mash-up was admittedly Knockando single malt and Sambuca, which I might caution against.

Anyway, since I've had a bottle of Highland Park gathering dust since Christmas...
