My parents eat their main meal at 6 now, and call it dinner like posh people, so yesterday we all sat round the table afterwards finishing off the Chablis and gossiping about their neighbours.

They've now outlived everyone who was living on the street when they moved in in 1970.

That's the last of the tonic. I could borrow a couple of cans of San Pellegrino to add to the rest of the vodka, or I could just open the Moët.

The problem is my patch test is out of date - it's been so long since I had a treatment at a particular salon that when I tried to book an appointment today they said I'd need a whole new patch test, so that's arranged for tomorrow. I can't have a hangover from two completely different alcohol groups.

I don't know if there's enough vodka for more than another two drinks. By then, I might open the other anyway, and then I'll suffer.

I got so hammered on Tuesday night that I've had to take it easy for the last few days.

Three bottles of wine from 7pm to whenever without the blink of an eye.

There were a few tots of tequila dotted in there too.

It was only until the next morning that I realised the degree of my folly by the degree of my pain and existential anguish. bawl

I haven't had a three bottle night for quite a while. I can't drink tequila in the house - it's an 'out' drink for me. I wouldn't go so far as to call it an 'out out' drink, but if I have tequila when I'm out the night becomes an out out one.

Two of my top three most serious events to have happened on buses have been on tequila outings.

I had a much less drunken Christmas than last year.

And I continue to do my 1 alc-free day per week.

But I still think 57-59 units a week is too many, however delightful it makes an evening on Reddit seem.

It is straaaaaaaaaaange.

An almost indefinable flavour.

Flavour-wise, yes, an acquired taste perhaps, but, like other wormwoody spirits it imparts a pleasantly intoxicating sensation.

It is my weekly drink-free day today.

I have been drinking less the last few months, due to pressure of work and storage wrangling. That is a good thing.

the Jar wrote:That's the initial problem with having so-called dry days though - each non-dry day causes significantly gr8er hangover distress the day following the next supposably admissible 'wet day'.

I deal with this by drinking less after a DFD than I would after a previous vodka night. Quantity isn't usually the main problem for me, it's frequency.

For example - as some may know here - Monday is my official night off (the day after what has usually been a fairly hefty weekend of boozing) and throughout that Monday I have a steady and generally rigid routine whereby I can 'heal' myself.

I too have a DFD routine. It involves a strict rule not to get involved in online controversy, a nice lunch, and an equally nice but blander tea so I can go to bed early without waiting to digest it. Then I wake up next day ready for vodka time in the evening.

Just like I have today.
