I used to use a dehumidifier when I had the house, and before I chipped off all the 'blown' render that was trapping damp on the outside of the wall. It was indeed very satisfying to empty it.

22.5 C. The sun-trap effect again.

I remember when I had to sleep in my bedroom in about 9 degrees. I was fully dressed.

I can't remember if it was that the heating wasn't working or if it was just a very cold night when we had the ancient heating system with the old-style chunky radiators which never got very hot and only came on twice a day. The window was single glazed (one of the old Edwardian sash windows) and on the cold front of the house.

The coldest bedroom temp I've had is 16 C. I used to have three duvets, and a throw. Tog 26, b*****s.

Things have got a bit desperate in the Bijou Mini-Flatlet.

I've had to make myself an hot water bottle.

I had two hot-water bottles last night - the main one, and a little one for my feet.

I can’t stand hot water bottles.

They speak highly of you.

The little one is also useful for thawing out the lock on the car door when it's frozen.

Hot water bottles with fluffy covers are lovely.

I can’t bear having things in bed with me. And they get cold. Having first been too hot. And you can hear the water sloshing about. And I remember a news or Watchdog report about rusting or badly made tops bursting off and scalding the holders. And they don’t even warm the bed up - they warm up a small rectangle of it. I think that’s enough to be going on with. All in all, they are an unsatisfying experience.

Holding a hot water bottle against the lock sounds like the most complicated way to get into a car I can think of. I have never encountered a frozen car door lock that required even the consideration of such action. If I ever did, I’d assume the lock was likely not the only thing frozen, and the car probably wasn’t safe to drive. At most - and I’m straining the depths of my memory here - there’s been a hint of a crunch of resistance, on the most unusually icy mornings.

27.5 C. The heater's gome rogue and is ignoring the thermostat. I've had to switch it off at the wall, and open the window.

It was just 15 degrees when I got up, this morning.
