I read somewhere years ago that the version of Elton John's Sacrifice that was released, the version we all know, is sped up and its pitch therefore higher, hence why his vocals sounds a bit strangulated.

I've just found this slowed down version where his vocals sound more natural and typically Elton, and is probably more like how it would have originally sounded when recorded.







And here's the version we all know - notice the difference! You only need to play the first few seconds.

Thank you for that. Never heard it slowed but I think I prefer it. It’s always been my favourite Elton song. Spent many a happy night crying over my last joint of the evening to it. Next time, I’ll listen to the slow version.
