This guy really does have the tackiest taste in lecterns imaginable...

How impoverished would you need to be to feel any inspiration or any desire for spiritual reflection from that? So many of the evangelicals have no discernable taste. Lots of dark wood 'effect', bad lighting, mock stone cladding, frosted glass windows, office style carpet tiles. I've always found it strangely fascinating.

Last year, through morbid curiosity, I went to see a fire and brimstone Alabama preacher on tour. A double glazing company was sponsoring - their products were displayed around the venue offering 'views' of Christian scenes. Beyond the leaded panes and rose 'effect' features were terrible drawings of things like sheep.
