Anyway, I wanna put a copy of my music folder onto my NAS Drive so I'm using:
rsync -urlpt -vz --delete /Users/WhatDoesThisButtonDo?/Music/Music/Media/Music /Volumes/Public/Shared\ Music/
Seems to work okey, only problem is it takes twice as long as it should because it delete anything in foreign. then copies it back again, For example doing Amon Düül II Yeti:
deleting Music/Amon Du?\#210u?\#210l II/Yeti/1-12 Between the Eyes.mp3
Anything I can do to stop this? Or it just a limitation of the errr whatever Filesystem it is on the NAS drive? The files look okey when they've been copies over, ie shows Amon Düül II in the files, not 'Amon Du?\#210u?\#210l II'
I had that problem too, I think it's because rsync doesn't understand Unicode properly.
Shame because I'm a big fan of the old '-urlpt'.
Re: Do you hate your computer?
Automator doesn't work, it only copies, I've tried a free sync file program, but on the free version it copies anything from the other folder back again, which will create problems if I rename a file in music.app, not mirroring which is what I want.
I think the £8.99 version will do it, but I'll need to test if it'll have the same unicode (that was the magic word I was looking for) problem.

Oooh, that could be helpful, I shall experiment.

Re: Do you hate your computer?
I've just had a blue screen of death for the first time in years. Being what I think is Windows 10 on this laptop, it all looked a bit more fancy looking than it used to be with all that basic computer jargon, but still left me briefly anxious, before coming back on all normally.

Re: Do you hate your computer?
I realised last night that my computer had been switched on for nearly a whole week. So I turned it off overnight to give it a much-needed rest.

But it's always when you turn them back on again that they break.

It seems fine so far.

Re: Do you hate your computer?
My laptop is starting up ok, and making the noise it should, but the screen remains blank. Totally black, with just a flashing hint of a white cursor.
What might be the problem and solution? I've taken the battery out and tried the various F-whatever plus shift whatever combos suggested online.

Re: Do you hate your computer?
I had that problem, a few months back but I can't remember how I solved it.

When you use the various F keys does anything happen at all or does it still remain totally black?
Also, have you tried hitting the ESC key when restarting?

Have you unplugged anything that's attached to it, like your mouse/printer/scanner etc?

I have found my posts from when I had the problem.

Is it black from the moment you turn on or does it only happen after you log-in to Windows?

Have you tried pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del to see if that provokes a response from it?

Do you have another computer with a disk drive that fits your stricken laptop? If so, swap the drives and see if the other one works in it. If it does, there's probably a problem with your current disk drive.

Black from the get go. Normally it dances into the Windows sign with a little jingle, and then becomes a log in screen.
I've tried a few of those things but I'm not sure about escape so I'll try that.
All the time I can hear the engine running as it were, it's just showing nothing on screen.

Re: Do you hate your computer?
It might be that your disk drive has failed or it could be that your laptop is failing to recognise it as a disk drive.

You need to get into the BIOS (or whatever it is they call it now) to see if the hard drive is been seen by the computer. I don't know which magical key you need to hold down when you turn it on, one of the F Keys probably.
If it does you could try going into Safe mode on Windows is that F8 when after it's been turned on.
Which is just saying whatever it is people have said, and you've tried it. So

I'll probably have to pay someone an extortionate fee to come out in their biohazard suit to fix it.
