I saw a big purplish streak of lightning across the night sky just before I came in.

This seems very localised - looking at the map it's one of a handful of small clusters of lightnings over the whole of the UK. This one started a few miles south of where I am and isn't widespread as yet.

I thought I heard thunder, just now.

We've gone on to have a three hour not-quite extravaganza here. The traditional "thunderstorm" was relatively brief, but for ages after there have been random flashes of lightning but with little thunder. I just had a shower and as soon as I finished I could hear distant rumbles of thunder again, and still can.

Just before I went to bed last night, I looked out the window to see if I could spot any killer meteorites.

I couldn't but, just as I started looking, there was a streak of bright red lightning shot horizontally across the southern skies. I've never seen red lightning before. Excited

There was no thunder, at all even though, from that point on, there were regular flashes of red lightning.

Then, I woke up at 2 in the morning and the lightning was going at it like mad. It was literally a strike every second.

This time, it was normal white lightning and there was plenty of thunder - and rain and gales. cheer

I was walking back from Tescos at 8.35am ~~with some Bombay Sapphire for this evening~~ and the sun was beating down mercilessly even at that early hour.

We've had two rather epic thunderstorms today, an hour or two apart - and LOTS of torrential rain. A bit further down the road, in viewing distance from an upstairs window, was flooded and was the deepest I've ever seen it - cars were either going through, with the water right up to their bonnets in some cases, or turning around, causing all kinds of mayhem for a good while. And three cars have been abandoned on the side of the road over the course of the day, having flooded their engines - all three being BMWs!

And once again a couple of hours after the last storm ended there are still silent flashes of lightning in the night sky.

All gone quiet again. And all the nearby lightnings on the map thing have gone from bright yellow new flashes to brown old ones.

We had some very distant lightning for a few minutes but nothing very dramatic.

Very loud rumble of thunder at 8am - I thought it was those fl*pping builders commencing some fresh nonsense - followed by a downpour.

Didn't see any lightning though.
