You spend too much time watching the tuber.

You can also see the White Horse at Kilburn in North Yorkshire, 62 miles away. The Call of the Wendigo wrote:I've just discovered you can see York Minster from Sheffield, even though it's 50 miles away and such a thing seems impossible.
I already knew you could see the Humber Bridge (52 miles) and Lincoln Cathedral (43 miles) from here.

Is anything distant visible to the south or west or is it too hilly in that direction?

I don't think you can see too far to the west or south from within the city boundaries but I have unearthed a claim that the mountains of Snowdonia can be seen from Kinder Scout, on the fringes of Sheffield (82 miles).Butterfield wrote:Is anything distant visible to the south or west or is it too hilly in that direction?

And there's a claim that Bilsdale transmitter, near Middlesborough, is visible from Sheffield (72 miles).

After much research, I've discovered that this cylindrical pile of bricks would appear to mark the spot in Sheffield from where you can see the Humber Bridge, York Minster, Lincoln Cathedral and the White Horse in North Yorkshire all at once. Apparently, it has markings on it to tell you in which direction to look for each one.

That looks more like a drystone cairn than a pile of bricks to me.

I hear on a good day you can see the outskirts of Rotherham. On a bad day you can see all of it.

Did they never do a "My distant view vs your distant view" on SkyscraperSh*tty, where the winner was the city with the furthest views?
From the top of my (former) local tallest hill, within Dudley Borough, you can see the hills of Derbyshire (Dovedale in the Peak District?) to the north, Leicestershire to the east (it's all mostly flat with few landmarks), the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire/Herefordshire to the south west and the hills of Mid Wales to the west.
I'm sure I once heard someone say that Beetham Tower in Manchester was visible on an ultra clear day, but that could have been from Cannock Chase or somewhere a bit further north.

You can't see anything from here, it's too flat. If you go to the top floor of the library at work, you can see to the northern edge of the town, that's all.

Britain's 2nd-ever tram route was created by a man named George Francis Train.
