Southern Nights or baggy tights?
Re: Allen Toussaint - Southern Nights (1975)
This rekkid has that weird, beguiling soprano sax sound on it that sounds a bit like a synthesizer.

The band on the LP is the very creme-de-la-creme of New Orleans musicians on it.

Is he in the same envelope as Dr John? I've never heard much Dr John but assume this is the sort of thing he does.

Yes, it did strike me that Venus and Mars was recorded in New Orleans, so local musicians could be used.WhatDoesThisButtonDo? wrote:

Yes.
New Orleans/Southern Funk soul.
AT is black rather than Creole/Cajun however.

This is a bit Barry White without the deep vocals.

The only thing about Allen Toussaint is that his vocals are slightly weak.
Lacking range and depth of timbre.
He was always more of a songwriter, musician and bandleader than front man, but I find his vocals wonderful by the veery nature of their limitations.

This is one of the album's weaker tracks.
