Re: The Weather Thread
We had the strangest day of weather on Sunday. All week the BBC weather website/app had lightning strikes for almost every hour of the day for my area which I thought was a bit far fetched but it turned out to be pretty much like that.
It started with me seeing a flash of lighting out of the window at 2am when I was getting some water from the tap and then by about 3:30 it was thundering and lightning and rain was pouring really heavily. I didn't get to sleep until towards 5am when it had gone. Then I woke at 6:30 to the sound of thunder again but it wasn't very loud and I went back to sleep again.
It was a normal warm-but-humid day up until sometime in the afternoon when once again there were distant rumbles of thunder. It went on like this for a good while and we sat outside and didn't see any lightning, but the rumbles were almost continuous for ages. Then it started lashing it down with rain and the thunderstorm finally hit closer - the road flooded a bit further down from where I was and cars were driving through the water slowly in single file. By early evening it had finally died out.
Although there were only a handful of very loud thunderclaps all day, the general rumblings and at one point constant flashes of lightning were probably the most continuous I can ever remember.

Re: The Weather Thread
We missed a splendid thunderstorm by about 2 miles today. It was agonising watching it drift slowly away on the radar.

Re: The Weather Thread
Very overcast and sullen at the moment. I hear an occasional rumbling but I'm not sure if it's distant thunder or just distant traffic.

No thunder here yet. The lightnings have now been pushed back from 4pm to 9pm, but still with an end of 4am.

Lightning Maps is showing a brief batch of lightnings over Shropshire to the west of where I am but it seems they died out.

Re: The Weather Thread
There was a pretty determined shower from 3-3.30am this morning. I know because I was lying awake with cheese-induced collywobbles.
