One from Bob's wastepaper basket.

Where is this keyboard piece borrowed from?

I seem to recall it featuring on the cover of a Beefheart album as a supposed quote by the Cap'.
Yeah, Unconditionally Guaranteed (1974)...

Re: Dire Straits - Love Over Gold (1982)
The most dystopian guitar solo of Knopfler's career.

This is quite unlike any other playing he ever did.

Apparently it's what Beefheart signed alongside his autograph for fans in the '70s.

Re: Dire Straits - Love Over Gold (1982)
It is over.
That was genuinely excellent from start to finish, an album of remarkable accomplishment. The excellence of the musicianship was used perfectly in the service of mood creation and expression. Knopfler ramps up his guitar playing here, finding places in his soul that had previously been untapped.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everyone else made of it.

Quite dull, albeit technically competent and self-assured.
Still, no horizons breached, no new ideas...
Production-wise it was slick to the point of being lacquered and buffed to a mirror finish.
Their earlier albums are obviously better.
