Re: Burl Ives - Return of the Wayfaring Stranger (1949/1950).
It was what it was.
A charming interpretation of classic 'songbook' numbers by a pioneer of the post-war recording age.
There is absolutely nothing to dislike.
Nonetheless, it didn't really inflame the senses.
Something of a churlish comment perhaps, but as someone who's listened TO A LOT OF FOLK over the years not one that rings altogetherly hollowy.
Trois etoiles.

Now we wait while ButtonZ uses one his many sock-puppet accounts to review the secret scores and vote in a way that deliberately annoys me.

But the tracks were recorded in 1949/50.WhatDoesThisButtonDo? wrote:WhatDoesThisButtonDo? wrote:The Call of the Wendigo wrote:Is this the oldest album we've done?
No.
This came out in 1960.

We've done at least 2 older than that.

Actually, scrub that, it's usually Wendi who annoys me with her marking.

Interesting structure.
Ergo not Irish.

The Wikipedia page has a brillo Arthur Rackham illustration to the tale.

"In 1962, Bob Dylan modelled his song "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" on "Lord Randall"

Re: Burl Ives - Return of the Wayfaring Stranger (1949/1950).
Typical Dylan bores, more on his non-cover than about the original song.
Anyway, I'm giving this **** It's good, but not quite as good as the Folk songs vol 2 we did the other day.
Can we do this one at Christmas?
