Re: The White Stripes - The White Stripes (1999)
As is being confirmed with every passing second...
This is a one-man-band.
He's not without obvious charisma, intelligence and talent - that's obvious - but the whole White Stripes 'project' is a clear-as-the-fungal-growth-on-your-face strategy to divert attention from the fact that it is just this bloke with his singular, but seriously hackneyed 'vision'.
Y'know, Jake Bugg might've prospered if he'd had a dowdy, yet obviously lankly pretty cousin playing the zither in the background?

In fairness, I do like his guitar playing.

Meg does do the odd singing on a song. Don't know if she does it on this album.

This has got more in common with Link Wray and The Cramps than anything supposably bluesy.
Only not nearly as good.

The song is just witless drivel, though.

I'm now a full song behind on Broken Bricks. Hang on, and again, now it's starting!

If he just marketed himself as a one-man-band, with a bass drum on his back, cymbals on his knees and kazoo stuck up his arse I'd have a lot more respect for him/them.

Yeah, but the (ex-)wife sister made for good press.
And he's never been half as good when he was with a good drummer.

Basically, this is just a single male person doing a gormless record company friendly demo tape, but jazzing it up it on the basis of some spurious incest rumours.
Absolute shite.
Absolute shite.

I feel like the album's going on too long, now.
