Yeah, I'm doubtful.

I’ve read that you’re meant to stand your ground with wolves. Don’t turn and run, face them head on. As I say, I’m not keen to find out.

Re: The drinking less thread
That's probably true.
True for dogs generally.
And, to a much lesser extent, big cats.
Not with bears though.
Especially Grizzlies.
I believe that the advice is to collapse to the floor, adopt a foetal position, cover your head/face/scalp at all costs and, once the initial assault has waned, just play dead until it thinks it's neutralised you and wanders off.
And hopefully isn't hungry.

Yes, I read that in an account of someone who was partly eaten by a bear. He played dead so it left the rest of him for later. Once it was out of sight he managed to get away, minus an arm.

Re: The drinking less thread
I've been drinking rather less lately. It's very pleasing how quickly my tolerance goes down when I do.

Cos it's the last day of the league season and cos the sun is streaming in on sunlight wings through the window in the wall like a million bright ambassadors of morning...
I am having a nice, big, very punchy G&T.
No lime or lemon though, but supercharged with an unhealthily liberal splashing of Angostura bitters.

Re: The drinking less thread
I'm still in a much better place re alcohol. I've discovered another important factor - as well as how much I drink, and how many days off I have, the number of drink days in a row is also important.
I've changed from my 5 on, 2 off weekly pattern to 3 on, 1 off, 2 on, 1 off, and I feel tons better.

Re: The drinking less thread
You do feel much better with less. It’s hard to remember it’s poisoning you when it’s doing the good you want at the time - social lubrication, private obliteration, marking an occasion, whatever. It is actually poison - only moderate quantities don’t make you ill. If you take more than that, you are going to feel ill - and if you're doing it repeatedly get used to feeling ill so you sort of forget what normal and not unwell feels like.

Re: The drinking less thread
The drinking less is still going great.
The only drawback is that I get much worse hangovers, and after drinking petty amounts that I would have barely noticed in the bad old days.
At least they're over quickly though. Before, they'd still be going on into the afternoon.

Re: The drinking less thread
Yes, the hangovers do get worse. I think it’s a great trade off - your body is flagging up the fact you’ve poisoned yourself loud and clear. On the odd occasion, because it’s a great night out or because you’ve had the worst day in months, it’ll be worthwhile - you know you’ll feel terrible for two days and you make a choice to trade that off with a night really on it.
