An upsetting afternoon. I was baking on my terrace - marvelling that my forget-me-nots of all things had decided to come back out for a second outing in midsummer along with all the other flowers, when a commotion made itself heard above Radio 2. Somehow my mother had made it here and almost managed to unlock the flat door, despite being too drunk to walk straight. She stumbled in when I opened it and fell straight through the living room door. The torn vest and scraped shoulder is apparently due to her having fallen off a pavement on the way here. She's in bed now, tranquillized. I thought we were having quite a good pandemic, so far, as a family. She went into this drinking beer because she doesn't like it enough to drink quickly. That, today, is a three bottles of vodka affair.

There's even a lipstick that is shattered - evidently that rolled out of her bag on one of her falls on the way here, and was run over by a passing car. I can't believe she's in this state. She's as bad as she's ever been.

It's really worried me. She wasn't just drunk, she was annihilated. I'm still quite upset about it now, a week later.

In other news piccolino is in France - has been since August began, and I've readily agreed he can stay until the end of the month as planned. I think it's well earned. He can just complete his mandatory quarantine in the first two weeks of September.

No. And it's not quite as gloomy as one would imagine a band such as Portishead to come from.

That said, it's not exactly the most thrilling of places, but I don't think it's really supposed to be.

What a life. Can't wait till to see the complaints, Who would have though the worlds of Doctor Who and record collecting would have had so many 'pedants'.

My son is self isolating, from his month in France, at my mothers. I was going to have him home until it was rightly pointed out to me that I'd have to do all the laundry, so he went straight there. I've had them both on the phone this evening. It seems things have become rather lively after the internet connection packed up and left them with nothing to do apart from scream at one another.
