The cinemas of your life - and beyond
A thrilling new thread for discussion of cinemas.

One day I'll go past this and it'll be gone.
I don't go past there very often.

The old Manor Cinema in Sheffield still exists. It is now a glamorous Poundland and I have been in it.
Before the days of the Internet, I never even realised it had once been a picture house.

The last film it showed starred Jon Pertwee.

The West Bar cinema is still there and is now a bright yellow self-storage place.
The Sheffield Star has listed it as one of the 13 most haunted places in Sheffield, thanks to the presence of a ghost called Mr Porter.

The cinema I saw Star Wars in was demolished and replaced by a roundabout in 1995. It is now known as the Odeon Roundabout.

The small green area just to left of the image was where I was once approached by someone whom I subsequently have realised was almost certainly a p*edophile.
I was probably about 10 or 11 years old and was mooching about wondering whether to come back later and see, I think, A Bridge Too Far.
Anyway, he wanted to know if I was going to come back and clearly knew what time the late afternoon showing was and, despite my vague dimmery, I knew he was creepy and all wrong.
I didn't go back to watch the film.
This obviously saved me from a terrible fate.
Being bored out my mind for nearly 3 hours basically.

It was then that I realised that I was attractive.

You seem to have a very long-running association with that part of London.
Just how many decades have you been standing outside Smokers Junction?

I don't remember a cinema there. That's the junction I saw a cyclist disappear under a bus. I didn't know it was called Smokers Junction. I had a flat up at the top of that road, so I'm more familiar with that junction than I care to recall.

It's not called Smokers Junction.
Smokers Junction is a 10 minute walk away from there.
