Re: Is your local news rubbish?
I had no idea that this had happened.
It's literally across the road from me.

The ticker-tape breaking-news banner at the top of the Sheffield Star website is always just an endless parade of announcements about superstar deaths and catastrophes.

Then when you click on them, it's always someone you've never heard of.

Re: Is your local news rubbish?
Well I’m not at home, but this still made me furious.
https://www.theguardian.com/food/2024/oct/06/hot-dogs-by-three-darlings-london-things-that-no-one-needs-restaurant-review#comments
Snotty b*st*rds all over the comments, inverted snobbery, slagging off the store, the area, the locals, and a load of pretentious w*nk about ‘no Londoner ever…’, tales of woe about how they were assaulted with bad taste on their last tourist trip to Knightsbridge, and how they realised they preferred Tesco when they were somehow conned through the doors at Harrods - and even one who wanted to eat there purely so she could wipe her hands afterwards on displays of Hermes scarves. Just vile. So what if some of it’s tacky.
There’s the odd sane remark - people pointing out their old mum used to get the bus over to get her bacon there, or how they would pop in to get discount fruit at the end of the day. I was going to add my own but I couldn’t be bothered, so just as well comments were closed. I’ve never eaten a hot dog so I’ve no idea how much they should cost, and don’t particularly care. Jay Rayners comments BLT always attract these insufferable ars*h*les - as if they think if they suck up enough he’ll choose one of them at random to take to dinner.
Milk is always reasonable in Harrods (as someone did in fact mention), as are other staples, and there is the fantastic selection of pre prepared dishes - deli stuff and pasta salads etc - cheaper than petrol stations, and on a par price wise with Tesco - but far better quality and range.. The whole article is clickbait looking to ride off the back of Harrods recent publicity issues re:the previous owner, and give hideous people an outlet to parade their ignorance. That context is the tackiest thing of all. Sneaky. Mailesque in its maliciousness.
I don’t know why I expected better of The Guardian.
