Can't you just, you know, rent the spare room out to a mature student for a term here and a term there, go away somewhere hot and cheap to get you out of the worst (and more expensive) of the winter months, and supplement your pension by doing the sex phone lines?

I went to inspect a branch of Mailboxes Etc that I was planning to rent a mailbox etc at.

But it wasn't open at 11.15 when it was supposed to have opened at 11.

Also it looked scruffy and badly run. I had no confidence that they would handle my post correctly.

So I abandoned that idea and drove into Glasgow to inspect a different branch. But I never got there because on the way from the car park I walked past a hairdressing establishment that I'd heard of, and seeing it empty I boldly went in and asked if they had a walk-in available. They did, and I got my hair cut.

And in the process I got lots of valuable information about which parts of Glasgow not to live in.

When I came out it was raining so I just went back to the car park. MBE's loss is my gain. I'll go and see them next weekend.

I went to inspect two more mailbox places yesterday morning. They were both scruffy and shonky and failed to inspire confidence. I suppose the mailbox trade just doesn't attract the best people.

I'll find another solution.

I've been to inspect two of their branches here, and I didn't have confidence in either. They looked insecure and badly maintained. And one wasn't open when it was supposed to be.

Well they're insured. What are you having delivered that requires top security? Diamonds? Guns? If you're using mailbox drop facilities, some unsavoury elements and a few dodgy fellow customers goes with the territory.

It was "Thursday" on Richard Osman's House of Games earlier today and that threw me. Not sure how that got out of sync.
