S'nice, almost Irishish taste.

I had a dry sherry aperitif, and while I was sipping that I cooked turkey burgers, sprouts and roast potatoes. I steamed the sprouts in a colander over a pan of water, and the texture was perfect even if I do say so myself.

With the food I had a glass of Montrachet. I'm still drinking that, and when I've finished, I'll have my Christmas pudding, maybe preceded by more sherry.

I wish I'd got a bottle of Pedro Jimenez.

It was no idle boast about the Christmas pudding. And custard. Followed by sherry.

Now I've had a bit of Comté and a cracker to clear my palate between the sherry and another glass of Montrachet.

You really are stretching out this Montrachet.

No. I've had 2 glasses, 2 more to come.

Yes, yes I do.

Aaaaand, right on cue I've started chugging my Pinot Gris as if it was midnight and I couldn't bear the thought of waking up to half-empty glasses of stale wine.

I've now had turkey sandwiches, followed by a mince pie and sherry.

I've only just put the spuds on.

I'm still really really seriously not hungry.

In truth, the whole experience of making my own, single Christmas dinner for the first time in every one of my 51 years, has left me feeling exhausted, enervated, bored and nauseous.

That's why I opted for the simple turkey burgers+sprouts+roasters option. Only took 50 minutes to cook.

I'm having sherry and crudités as preparation for my Boxing Day lunch.

I hope I haven't got too used to this civilised 11am aperitif idea. Back to normal tomorrow

I have made a Christmas chocolate cake by putting brownie mix and beer in a bowl, giving it a good stirring and microwaving it for 2.5 minutes. I then put it in the fridge to cool, and then ate it.

It was perfectly amenable.

And I still have most of the brownie mix left.

I've drunk all the sherry. I'm on the Bombay Sapphire now.
