The previous version ends all ramshackle, actual-band-in-the-studio-y.

It is over.
It wasn't very surprising or exciting, as it was just a collection of Reggae's greatest hits but it was a painless listen.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

It's over.
A very special album, dear to my heart.
I'm grateful to my Mum for bringing me up listening to cool and interesting music of all different stripes and colours.

I'd recommend the film too.
It's essential viewing.
Proper grass-roots filmmaking with a proper grassroots soundtrack.
What's more, the lead artist of the soundtrack is the main star of the film.
A vicious street hoodlum who's also an aspiring singer and musician.
It would be absurd if it was a Hollywood movie, but as a movie set in and on the streets of ultra-violent Kingston it's completely convincing.

You didn't have to.
I'm not sure your written review reflects the mark.
Don't you think three stars would be more apt?

Jimmy Cliff not really Reggae is he?
I was going to say ★★★★, but that last two tracks, hmm, should I dock a ★ for that laziness?
no.
I liked the Scotty one best.

It is great that one innit.
His shrill delivery over the languid almost-Egyptian/Asiatic dub reggae mooch is fab.
Also, the lyrics are some of the most authentically esoteric examples of Jamaican patois ever dun on a rekurd.

Oh, I forgot to say Jimmy Cliff's GR8, but he's a Jamaican pop star, not Prince Far I and King Tubby's love child.
I've also been thinking of trying something, I've never actually listened to, a Bob Marley album.

All the tracks were good. They were just over-familiar to someone living in 2021. That, however, is not necessarily the fault of the album.Nightjar wrote:The Call of the Wendigo wrote:I shall give it four stars.

Are you suggesting that I'm not living in 2021?

In fairness, I do live in 4515 AD so everything sounds delightfully old-fashioned to me.
