White City: A Novel, Blackpool: A Sentence?
Re: Pete Townshend - White City: A Novel (1985)
Baba O-Reilly-ish ending.

What, White City?
My point exactly.
You've never been to White City.
Have you ever been to Fagley?

I'm not sure how that makes any sense.
Unless it was a t*pless tour bus with a person on a microphone saying "and, on the left you will see the world famous Springbok pub"...

Is there an ambitious, over-produced, mid-'80s concept album by a major rock star written about it and called "Fagley"?

You're getting insufferable again.

Isn't it next to where the BBC used to live?Nightjar wrote:The Call of the Wendigo wrote:I've been through it, on a coach.Nightjar wrote:Incidentally, I'm betting none of you have ever actually been to White City before.

You never weren't.

You must've come down Wood Lane towards Shepherds Bush.
Or the other way, fleeing back up North.
Either way, you would've passed it.
So, I'll let you off.

It is over.
It was competent but uninspired, with a cold edge that left one feeling excluded.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

Blinking Ada!
This is what it looked like when the exhibition was on.
I don't think I've ever seen it depicted like that.

Re: Pete Townshend - White City: A Novel (1985)
Anyway, I suppose my pedantry about the White City Estate is indicative of how disinterested with the album I became after the, really brill, opening track.
I think that it was almost a repeat of how I experienced the gig back in the '80s.
A sense of looming alienation from and with disenchantment with that whole crowd.
